How to Choose a Meatball Machine? 3 Criteria You Should Know Before Buying
A meatball making machine is an investment a business will use for years. Choosing the wrong machine is not only a waste of money, but also a recurring production problem in every shift: insufficient capacity, inaccurate weight measurements, and constant service calls. A correctly chosen machine, however, pays for itself in the first year and operates trouble-free for ten years.
In this article, we've compiled eight of the most common decision points we encounter when working with businesses of varying sizes, from butchers to meat processing plants. By reading them in order, you will clarify which class of machine you need before going to get quotes.
1. What is your actual capacity?
Take your production levels before holidays, on weekends, or during peak season, and add a 30% growth margin. A machine's lifespan can reach 10 years; buying a machine that is insufficient after two years is more expensive than buying a higher-end model from the start.
Industrial meatball machines on the market can be broadly divided into two classes:
Daily necessities | Suitable class | Altuntaş equivalent |
Up to 1,000 kg | Medium capacity | |
1,000 – 2,000 kg | High capacity |
For reference: the AK100_DS model produces 1,000 kg per day, which is approximately 31,500 meatballs.
2. With or without a compressor?
This is the least discussed aspect of choosing a meatball machine , but it's the one that most significantly impacts operating costs.
Compressor-based systems operate using compressed air. This means you need to install a compressor, air line, and dryer next to the machine. The consequences:
- Constant noise and enclosed production areas are a serious problem.
- Separate maintenance items: compressor oil, filter, air leak check.
- Additional electricity consumption
- The probability of a malfunction doubles, and even if the machine is running, if the compressor stops, production will halt.
Compressorless (mechanical) systems receive motion directly from the motor. The compressor, air line, and associated maintenance components are eliminated from the equation. The machine operates quietly, and the number of parts prone to failure is reduced.
All Altuntaş Makina models operate without a compressor. The mechanical forming mechanism we developed is protected by a utility model patent.

3. How many different products will you produce with the meatball machine?
The value of a meatball machine lies not only in its ability to press meatballs, but also in how many different products it can produce by changing the molds.
These can be produced with the same machine:
- Adana meatballs (in different sizes and weights)
- Hamburger paw
- Women's-style meatballs, Albanian-style meatballs, and grilled meatballs
- Kebab and fish meatballs
- Square shapes filled with cheese
This means expanding menu variety with a single investment.
Altuntaş mold range includes hundreds of different forms ; mold diameters are 10, 12, and 14 cm. For forms not listed, we manufacture custom molds based on samples or technical drawings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many meatballs does a meatball machine produce per hour?
It varies depending on the model. The AK100_DS has a capacity of 1,000 kg per day, approximately 31,500 units; the AK140 and SWP140 series can reach up to 2,000 kg per day.
Can I also make hamburgers with a meatball machine?
Yes. You can produce hamburger patties on the same machine by changing the mold. Our hamburger molds range from Ø85 mm to Ø120 mm.
Is a machine without a compressor less powerful?
No. The compressorless design transmits the motion mechanically; there is no loss in terms of capacity and pressure. The gains are in quieter operation and reduced maintenance.
I bought a non-cooled model, can I switch to a cooled one later?
Since the models are structured differently, subsequent conversion is not recommended.
If your shift duration exceeds 4 hours, choose a pre-cooled model from the start.
How long does the mold change take?
Mold changes are a simple, tool-free process and do not interrupt the production flow.
